Women's Tennis Sweeps Southern Utah 7-0

(San Francisco, CA) - USF women's tennis swept Southern Utah University 7-0 at Golden Gate Park on Saturday afternoon. The Dons (5-7) earned victories in all six singles matches and all three doubles matches.
In doubles play, junior Jennifer-Lee Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant defeated sophomore Ksusha Nazarova and freshman Olga Tatarchenko 8-2. In the No. 2 double position, junior Cecilia Gratian and sophomore Julia Wartenburger swept junior Kirrily Burden and senior Carmen Blanco 8-0. In the final doubles match, freshman Yurie Hasaguchi and sophomore Alana McMahon defeated senior Kristi Latteier and sophomore Mandie Divino 8-2.
In singles, all Dons earned two set sweeps. Wartenburger defeated Nazarova 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 1 position, followed by Gratian earning a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tatarchenko at No. 2. In the third position, Akerbrant earned the 6-4, 6-3 victory over Burden, while McMahon took a 6-2, 6-2 win from Blanco at No. 4. Following at No. 5, Hashiguchi defeated Latteier 6-1, 6-1 and junior Jessy Mekpoh earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Divino at No. 6.
USF returns to action on Sunday against conference foe Gonzaga at Golden Gate Park. The match is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
