Women's Tennis Sweeps Portland

(San Diego, CA) - In the first match of the San Diego Tournament, San Francisco women's tennis swept West Coast Conference foe Portland 7-0. The Dons improve to 7-7 on the year.
In doubles, junior Jennifer-Lee Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant defeated senior Megan Sporndli and junior Stephanie Fuchs 8-3, and junior Cecilia Gratian and sophomore Julia Wartenburger earned an 8-4 win over junior Lacey Pflibsen and sophomore Tessa Mini. Sophomore Alana McMahon and freshman Yurie Hashiguchi earned a default win over junior Stefanie Doolittle and freshman Valeska Hoath.
In singles play, No. 65 Heinser swept Pflibsen in two sets, 6-1, 6-0 and Wartenburger also took a two set victory, 7-5, 6-1 over Spornali. In the No. 3 spot, Gratian defeated Fuchs 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 4, Akerbrant earned the 6-3, 6-2 win over Doolittle. McMahon defeated Mini in three sets, 6-3, 2-5, 10-5, and in the No. 6 spot Hashiguchi earned the default win over Hoath.
USF continues play in the San Diego Tournament, meeting San Diego tomorrow.
