Final Stats Get Acrobat Reader

(San Diego, CA) - San Francisco women's tennis defeated Penn 4-0 on Saturday, to clinch a 2-1 record at the San Diego Tournament. USF improves to 8-8 on the season and No. 65 Jennifer-Lee Heinser earned her 13th win.

In doubles play, Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant took the 8-2 win over Alexa Ely and Jacqueline Wong, followed by freshman Yurie Hashiguchi and sophomore Alana McMahon defeating Emma Whitfield and Daniela DePaoli 8-3. The No. 2 match between junior Cecilia Gratian and sophomore Julia Wartenburger and Penn's Emily Wolf and Jules Rodin went unfinished after the Dons captured the doubles point.

In singles, Heinser defeated Ely in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 position and Wartenburger won at No. 2, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wolf. Gratian took the 6-4, 6-1 win over Rodin at No. 3, followed by Akerbrant winning at No. 4 with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 victory over DePaoli. Matches between McMahon and Wong at No. 5, and junior Jessy Mekpoh and Whitfield were not contested.

USF returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Marquette at Golden Gate Park. The match is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
