Women's Tennis Defeats Marquette 4-3

(San Francisco, CA) - USF women's tennis earned its second consecutive win on Tuesday, taking a 4-3 win over Marquette at Golden Gate Park. The Dons improve to 9-8 on the season.
USF took two of three doubles matches for the doubles point, and tied Marquette at 3-3 in singles play.
In doubles, the No. 2 team of junior Cecilia Gratian and sophomore Julia Wartenburger defeated Maggie Wilson and Olga Fischer 8-4, and the No. 3 team of freshman Yurie Hashiguchi and sophomore Alana McMahon defeated Paola Calderon and Gillian Hush 8-6. Junior Jennifer-Lee Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant fell to Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush 8-7(2) in the No. 1 spot.
In singles, Wartenburger, Akerbrant, and Hashiguchi won at Nos. 1, 3, and 6 respectively. Wartenburger defeated Calderon in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Akerbrant won 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Kelly Barry, and Hashiguchi took a 7-6(6), 6-3 win over Gillian Hush.
The Dons play again tomorrow, hosting Northern Iowa at Golden Gate Park. The match is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
