Lady Dons Rally Falls Short in Tennis Loss to SCU, 5-2

The USF women's tennis team staged a rally, but Santa Clara closed out the last two singles matches with third set wins to defeat USF 5-2 in action Friday at Golden Gate Park. The Lady Dons took the doubles point as the Beate Bernhoft and Carey Savage defeated the Broncos' Ashley Campbell Casey Knutson 8-1 while Michelle Duncan and Jill Rader were defeating Mariko Kawakami and Casey Knutson 8-1. Santa Clara won the first two singles matches with Christine Limbers defeating Gabi Ruiz 6-0, 6-1 and Janalle Kaloi defeating USF's Anna Skogerboe 6-0, 6-3. USF's Beate Bernhoft then took a straight set win over Patti Ruiz 7-6, 6-3. Santa Clara won the match with third set victories by Catherine Cochrane over Carey Savage 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 and Casey Knutson outlasting Michelle Duncan 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
