USF Women's Tennis Falls to Santa Clara 5-2

SANTA CLARA, CA. - The USF Lady Dons tennis team fell to the Santa Clara Broncos 5-2 Friday afternoon in Santa Clara. The loss snaps a five-match winning streak for the Dons (12-9, 1-4 WCC) as they prepare to head into the WCC tournament next weekend in Moraga. The win brings the Bronco's record to 11-9, 5-2 in the WCC.
In singles action, freshman Megan Tiegs secured the first point of the afternoon for the Lady Dons, knocking off Catherine Cochrane 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at the number #2 position. The win was the sixth singles match win in a row for Tiegs. Junior Michelle Duncan also picked up a point at the number #6 position, beating Erika Barnes 7-6 (4), 4-6, (10-3).
In doubles action, the team of Duncan and sophomore Anne Skogerboe held on to win a grueling 9-8 decision over Jenny Siegel and Casey Knutson. Santa Clara won at the both the #1 and #2 position to secure the doubles point.
The women's WCC championships begin on Friday, April 23rd in Moraga, with St. Mary's as this year's hosts.
