Women's Tennis Earns Five Wins at Saint Mary's Invitational

(Moraga, CA) - San Francisco women's tennis spent the weekend in Moraga, CA for the Saint Mary's Invitational. The Dons managed five wins over the three-day tournament.
Friday: USF played 16 matches on Friday, finishing 4-8. Winners on the day included freshman Blair Reed, who defeated Loyola Marymount's Maria Garcia-Planas (ITA Blue Singles - Round of 16), sophomore Ali McMahon, who defeated Davis' Sidney Brady 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 (ITA White Singles - Round of 32), junior Cecilia Gratian, who took a 6-4, 6-0 win over Portland's Stephanie Fuchs (ITA White Singles - Round of 32), and freshman Melinda Akerbrant, who earned a win after Saint Mary's Nienke Strijbis withdrew due to injury.
Sophomore Andrea Gaitan nearly earned a win over Washington's Lauren Summers, but fell 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
Saturday: The Dons added another win on Saturday, when Akerbrant defeated Santa Clara's Maggie McGeorge 6-2, 6-3.
Sunday: To finish out the weekend, USF fell in its only match of the day after Akerbrant withdrew from the ITA White Singles Consolations semifinals.
USF returns to fall season action at the ITA Regional Tournament in Palo Alto, CA on October 23-25.
