Dons Falter on First Day of Cal Poly Invite

(San Luis Obispo, CA) - USF had a tough first day at the Cal Poly Invitational, going 0-4 in singles versus the host Mustangs, and finishing 0-2 in doubles against UC Santa Barbara.

In singles competition, sophomore Cecilia Gratian fell to Suzie Matzenauer 6-3, 6-2 and sophomore Jessy Mekpoh was defeated by Brittany Blalock 6-1, 6-3. Senior Sarah Oudomvilay fell in straight sets to Steffi Wong 6-4, 6-1, while freshman Andrea Gaitan was defeated by Diane Filip 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action against UCSB, the team of Gratian and Mekpoh fell 8-3 to Tova Housman and Michelle Murphy. Gaitan and Oudomvilay were defeated by Asagi Onaga and Natalia Lozano 8-2.

USF continues play tomorrow, taking on UCSB in singles at 10:00 AM, and either Cal Poly or Santa Clara in doubles at noon.
