(San Bruno, CA) - San Francisco landed 12 student-athletes on the West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference today. The 12 spring selections elevates USF's total to 18 WCC All-Academic first team picks for the 2009-10 campaign.

USF Baseball led the way with a total of five selections, while women's golf and women's tennis added three apiece.

Two seniors - Derek Poppert (3.78, International Studies) and Alex Kalogrides (3.53, Business Administration) led the charge for the Diamond Dons in the classroom. It was the second all-academic selection for Poppert, who was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 2010 Major League Draft. Juniors Connor Bernatz (3.21, Business Administration), Matt Hiserman (3.30, Finance) and Matt Lujan (3.20, Marketing) also made the list for the first time.

Seniors Danielle Cvitanov (3.65, Exercise & Sports Science) and Natasha Podmore (3.50 Marketing) led the way for the Dons. The WCC Player of the Year in 2009, Cvitanov captured her second straight all-academic nod, while it was the third consecutive honor for Podmore. Junior Tinna Johannsdottir (3.48, International Studies) made her first appearance on the team after a strong year.

Jennifer-Lee Heinser capped a remarkable career on the Hilltop with her second WCC All-Academic honor. The three-time WCC Player of the Year and the 2010 WCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year turned in a 3.88 GPA in Business Administration en route to capturing the Dean's Medal for the School of Business. Junior Cecilia Gratian (3.95, International Business) collected her second all-academic accolade, while sophomore Alana McMahon (3.53, Communications) earned her first selection.

Senior Chris Cunningham was the lone men's golfer to earn a selection. A 2009 Cleveland Golf Academic All-American, Cunningham posted a 3.22 GPA in Business Administration in his final year on the Hilltop.

"The West Coast Conference is proud to recognize these extraordinary student-athletes who are perfect examples of being leaders in both the classroom and the playing field," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "These nominees are proof of the core values of our member institutions and they should all be congratulated for their efforts."
