A Note from the Coach
Oct. 14, 2009
USF Women's Tennis Fans, Check out the photos in the information center to the right to see the Dons in ACTION! The fall season is well underway as we have already competed in the UC Berkeley Nike Invitational and will be participating in the Saint Mary's Invitational this coming weekend and Regionals at Stanford the following weekend. We have 3 new freshmen to welcome, Melinda Akerbrant of Sweden, Yurie Hashiguchi of Japan, and Blair Reed of Sacramento. We are looking forward to all 3 newcomers stepping up this year to compete for the Dons. Heinser, our two time back to back WCC conference player of the year, will be back in action for her final year. She is our only senior and we have our other strong returners of Kit Kat Wartenburger, Mekpoh the Gazelle, Energizer Bunny Gratian, Gaitan the stretcher, and John Rambo McMahon. And, last but not least, we are blessed to have our Greek God back, assistant coach Yanni, also known as Emmanuel. We also have a new team manager this year, Matthew Macedo. Just shy of five months old, he is making most of the team decisions. Last Friday our team participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness and Pink Tennis Exhibition match at the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood Shores. The girls competed against each other in a world team tennis doubles format with "The Watermelons" beating "Pink Power" in a close battle, 6-4, while Coach Hilary emceed and spectators drank pink drinks on the sidelines. Check out the fun photos from the event. We can't wait to see you at the courts this season! Sincerely,
Hilary
