By USF Head Women's Tennis Coach Hilary Somers DONS NOTES:
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD: Freshman Pichaya Laosirichon straight from Thailand, known as the "Pink Panther", brings a lot of high level international playing experience to our team. Her consistency, impeccable ball placement and wicked drop shot will be scaring other teams. Our true Southern Californian girl from San Diego, Emma Taylor, is a freshman who hits the living daylights out of the ball to scare her opponents right off the court. Returners: Senior Michelle "Duncs" Duncan, Senior Anna "DQ" Skogerboe, Sophomore Camille "Pink Shoes" Pamart, Sophomore Maile "Seabiscuit" Smith, Sophomore Joana "Little Orange" Laranjinha, Sophomore Megan "Meg Dog" Tiegs .
SAINT MARY'S INVITATIONAL RECAP: We competed in the individual tournament with 3 flights of singles and 3 flights of doubles. The highlights of the weekend included Anna Skogerboe going to the finals in flight #2, with the finals unfortunately getting rained out on Sunday. In route to the finals she beat players from San Jose State, UC Davis, LMU, and then Saint Mary's. As always, Anna found a way to win all those tight matches and maintained her high level of intensity and concentration throughout the entire weekend. Camille Pamart, playing in the top flight, had a great victory first round against a player from Stanford University. She then lost a three set nail biter against the #3 seed from UOP. Emma Taylor cruised through her first two rounds losing only 6 games in two matches against players from University of Nevada Reno and UOP. Maile Smith and Michelle Duncan teamed up to make it to the finals in their flight beating teams from Saint Mary's and Santa Clara, but fell in the finals to a team from San Jose State.
WHAT'S ON TAP: ITA Regional Tournament at Stanford University October 22-25, Individual singles and double tournament with Berkeley, Stanford, UOP, Oregon, Washington, Washington State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's, Gonzaga, Portland, Sacramento State, and Cal Poly SLO. This is top of the line Division I women's tennis. It is great competition and great tennis to come watch!!!
DROP SHOTS:Thank you to all of the ladies who came out to our USF Ladies Tennis Day at the Olympic Club. Your support means a lot to us. It was a great day of tennis and company. Joanne Lin dominated on the court and was our winner of the tournament this year. Congrats to Joanne!
