In the first day of play at the Stanford Omni Hotels Northwest Regional Championships, the USF Lady Dons dropped six matches to opponents. In opening round play, Carey Savage was defeated by Pacific's Melinda Kocsis 6-3, 6-0. Gabriela Ruiz lost in three to Angi Bagheri of Cal Poly 6-3. 2-6, 6-3. USF's Michelle Duncan won her opening set against Sacramento State's Italia Kouknis but lost the set in three 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Caroline Tweeton fell to Catalina Fillol of Saint Mary's College 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.

The first round of doubles play also commenced on Friday with 64 teams competing. In the first round of competition, USF's Duncan/Savage combo dropped to Rio Del Rosario/Catherine Lynch of California 8-4 and the team of Ruiz/Tweeton fell to Kate Romm/Stephanie Westrich of Cal Poly 8-3.

After the first round of consolation play with 64 players still competing, the Dons had a lone player remaining in the competition. In the opening round of play, Catherine Cochrane defeated Ruiz 7-6(3), 7-5 as Duncan fell to Oregon's Adeline Arnaud 6-1, 6-3. Savage received a bye and continued to the second round of the consolation bracket. Savage received a bye in the second round of play as well and continued to the third round on Saturday. However, Savage lost to Stanford's Amelia Anderson 6-1, 6-0.

This tournament wraps up the fall season for the Dons. USF will return to the courts on Tuesday, January 29 when the Dons travel to Moraga for a contest with the Gaels of Saint Mary's College.
