Lady Dons Compete At The 2002 Omni Hotel ITA Regional
Oct. 27, 2002 (Stanford) - USF women's tennis competed at the 2002 Omni Hotel ITA Regionals hosted by Stanford at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. USF netters won a total of three matches at the prestigious tournament. USF number one Gabi Ruiz defeated Santa Clara's Ashley Campbell 6-3, 6-0 in opening round action before falling to the #6 seed of the tournament, Cal's Catherine Lynch 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 64. Beate Bernholf also won in the first round with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Idaho's Larissa Nicoli, before falling to Stanford #16 seed Alice Barnes 6-0, 6-0. Anna Skogerboe dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Washington State's Chris Martinez, while Carey Savage was dispatched 6-0, 6-0 by Oregon's Courtney Nagle. In the consolation round, Skogerboe earned a win after Catherine Fillol of Saint Mary's withdrew with an injury. Skogerboe would be eliminated by Santa Clara's Pattie Ruiz 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the second round. Washington's #11 seed Claire Carter downed Savage 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation round.
