Theresa Hart's 25 Kills Leads USF Volleyball to 3-1 Victory against Aztecs

(Fresno) - USF Volleyball bounced back from a tough five-game loss to host Fresno State with a satisfying 3-1 victory, 30-22, 31-33, 30-27, 30-24 against San Diego State Friday afternoon in the second day of the 2004 Fresno State Invitational at the North Gym. The Dons (4-7) hit at a .235 clip for the contest and got balanced contributions in downing the Aztecs (0-8) for the first time in program history.
Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Hart pounded a career-high 25 kills on .308 hitting to go along with three aces, nine digs and a pair of blocks to lead the Dons offensively. Four other USF players recorded eight or more kills, led by junior middle blocker KeLicia Shorts, who tallied nine kills to go along with three blocks. Senior middle blocker Ashley Bello, senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers and freshman outside hitter Kristin Hasselberg each added eight kills for San Francisco.
Hart's previous career-high was 18 set three times, most recently in a sweep of Hofstra (9/4/04). Hart now has a team-best 40 kills in two tournament matches, despite playing two games at libero in the opener against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore setter Jamie Kartchner dished out 50 assists and added five kills for USF, while freshman Ally Henthorn added a team-high 17 digs. USF recorded 11 blocks in the contest, led by a career-high seven from Bello, three solo. The Dons defense held the Aztecs to a .187 attack percentage for the match, including a .085 clip in game three.
USF takes on Oral Roberts today in their second match. First serve against the Golden Eagles is scheduled for a 5:30 PM first serve.
