USF Volleyball Posts Impressive 3-1 Victory against Nevada

(Stockton, CA) - Senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers tallied a match-high 20 kills, while junior middle blocker KeLicia Shorts added 16 as USF upset Nevada 3-1, 22-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-15 in the opening round of the 2004 Banker's Classic hosted by Pacific Friday night at the Spanos Center. The Dons (12-19) hit .284 as a club against the Wolf Pack (20-9), who hit at a .174 clip.
Shorts led USF in hitting at .387 and added seven blocks, while Voelckers hit at a a.306 clip with nine digs. Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Hart added 11 kills on .304 hitting to go along with seven digs, while sophomore setter Jamie Katchner did a nice job running the San Francisco offense, dishing out 49 assists to go along with 10 digs and three blocks. Freshman libero Brynn Maurer recorded a match-high 23 digs and set the USF single season digs record with her third of the night, finishing with 440.
Carly Sorenson led three Nevada players in double-digit kills with 19, while Teal Ericson and Salaia Salave'a recorded 12 apiece. Tristin Adams dished out 43 assists and added seven digs, while Christine Harms tallied 19 digs for the Wolf Pack.
USF will takes on the winner of the Pacific/George Washington match for the Banker's Classic Championship at 7:00 PM Saturday at the Spanos Center. Nevada will take on the loser of the contest in the consolation match at 5:00 PM.
