Player Perspective
June 26, 2005
Its summer now, school ended just a little bit ago. The family unit of the Don's Volleyball Team has headed home for the summer. Leaving the fast pace city of San Francisco wasn't the hardest part, it was not being about to see our teammates everyday. The break isn't just a time for rest and play, it is a time to get focused for the upcoming season and train in various ways. Some of us girls are heading to Europe to get international experience; some are catching some rays as they play two-man sand volleyball. While others are training with other colligate players to compete against traveling international teams.
Volleyball isn't the only type of training we are getting. Each one of us left our USF campus with a training program under our arms, given to us by our strength coach Lindsay Massengale. The spring season was an exciting time for our young team, with a winning record. We split with the reigning national champion Stanford Volleyball Team at our own spring tournament. We also competed well against many of the teams which were in this past years NCAA tournament. We beat Saint Mary's in a two game match. Our team had many great get togethers that inspired us not only for the spring but also leading into the up coming conference season.
We are all hungry to get started again. Look for these girls when you come cheer on the Don's Volleyball Team:
1- Brynne Maurer- our glue with her digs and passes that are always NAILS.
6- Jamie Kartchner- our Delivery girl.
8- Jencie LeJeune- our consistent blocking WALL on the right side.
12- Kristin Hasselberg- our "HAMMER"
13- KeLicia Shorts- our Dominating FORCE middle.
14- Makana Recca- our don't take crap from no one, gets the job done Hawaiian.
15- Linzy Kearney- our give me the ball and I'll put it done with some authority girl.
16- Katherine Hart- our sliding secret weapon.
18- Ally Henthorn- our always giving 110%, "Energizer Bunny".
20- Theresa Hart- our never-quit outside hitter, that "Brings the HEAT".
When one adds this group and the incoming freshman, the result is a lethal combination. SO... BRING IT ON DONS!
Loves and Hugs for my team, and lets get our SS.
