(Stockton, CA) - USF volleyball dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Portland State in the championship match of the 2006 Banker's Classic, hosted by Pacific, Saturday night at the Spanos Center. The Dons (23-10) now await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show as the 64-team field is unveiled Sunday, November 26 at noon on ESPN News.

Game scores were 27-30, 30-22, 30-25, 25-30, 17-15 as USF's record streak of five-game victories was snapped at nine. The Vikings (21-7) snapped a two-match losing streak against the Dons with the win.

Junior outside hitter Kristin Hasselberg led USF with 16 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Alix Gomobs added 15 on .343 hitting to go along with six blocks (one solo). For her efforts, Gombos earned all-tournament honors for the fifth time this season. Junior outside hitter Brynn Maurer turned in a strong match for the Dons with 12 kills on .357 hitting and recorded a team-high 20 digs. Freshman outside hitter Anna Berger chipped in with 10 kills, seven digs and five blocks (one solo).

Sophomore middle blocker Carly Babin added nine kills on .368 attacking and recorded a match-high seven blocks (two solo). Babin moves into sole possession of second place on the Dons single-season total blocks chart with 143 this season, passing Chiara Lawrence, who tallied 139 in 1995.

USF's setting tandem helped the Dons hit at a .257 clip as sophomore Darcy Carroll dished out a team-high 37 to go along with 13 digs for her third double-double, while senior Jamie Kartchner recorded 19. With 15 digs, freshman libero Haley Carroll became only the second player in USF history to surpass 500 in a season, finishing the night with 513.

Portland owned a 85-70 kills advantage thanks largely to tournament MVP Jessica Brodie, who turned in a monster night with 36 kills and 24 digs. USF held a 16.0-14.0 blocks advantage.
