USF Volleyball Falls 3-2 to Gonzaga in WCC Action Thursday

(San Francisco) - USF volleyball dropped its second consecutive five-game match, this time falling in a hard-fought 30-25, 30-32, 30-21, 22-30, 15-10 setback to Gonzaga Thursday night in West Coast Conference action at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (13-9, 2-4 WCC) drop their second straight decision against the Bulldogs (15-7, 3-3 WCC), who capture their first win in San Francisco since 2001.
Despite back-to-back losses in matches going the distance, USF has still won 13 of its last 16 5-game contests.
Senior outside hitter Kristin Hasselberg and freshman opposite hitter Sarah Mandala each recorded a team-high 17 kills for the Dons, leading four in double-digit kills. Junior outside hitter Addie Webster chipped in 15 kills and eight digs, while junior middle blocker Carly Babin added 14 kills and five blocks (one solo) for the Green and Gold.
Junior setter Darcy Carroll dished out 47 assists, to go along with a career-high 19 digs and four blocks in her second straight double-double. Sophomore libero Haley Carroll recorded a match-high 32 digs and tallied a pair of service aces.
San Francisco hit .147 as a team with 39 hitting errors, while Gonzaga managed a .195 clip for the match with 30 attack miscues. The Dons hit .000 in games three and five, while the Bulldogs hit .300 to close USF out in the fifth.
Gonzaga senior outside hitter Becky Jones recorded a 20-20 night with a match-high 20 kills and 22 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Boevers chipped in 15 kills, while senior middle blocker Briawna Mueller and junior middle blocker Elaina Renius added 13 apiece for the Zags.
USF looks to snap its three-match losing skid when Portland visits for WCC action Saturday afternoon. First serve against the Pilots is set for 1:00 PM at War Memorial Gym.
