Dons, Odwalla Encourage Fans To DiG PiNK

Sept. 28, 2009

Help the Dons DiG PiNK

(San Francisco) The USF Volleyball team and Odwalla will participate in the national DiG PiNK initiative Friday as the Dons host rival Santa Clara at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Gym. Fans are encouraged to join the Dons and Broncos in the united effort to raise breast cancer awareness by making a statement and wearing something pink to the game.

San Francisco is just one of thousands of teams from around the country that will participate in the DiG PiNK National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. The purpose of the rally is to promote breast health education in the community as well as raising funds to assist in eradicating breast cancer. The Dons will celebrate the event by donning pink warm-ups prior to the match along with pink socks.

Third-year head coach Gilad Doron and the Dons are encouraging USF fans to join the campaign by clicking here and making a contribution towards the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c) (3).

Odwalla will sponsor the event this year and will be unveiling its newest product, Pink Poetry. For the first 150 fans through the turnstiles Friday, Odwalla will be giving away DiG PiNK shirts. In addition, free samples of Pink Poetry will be available for Dons fans from 6:00 p.m. until 7:15 in the War Memorial Gym Lobby. Odwalla will also be sponsoring special promotional items throughout the match.

The match will serve as the first of three DiG PiNK events the Dons will participate in this season. USF will also partake in Pepperdine's and Loyola Marymount's DiG PiNK initiatives on October 22 and 24, respectively.

Friday's match will be the 2009 West Coast Conference season opener for USF. The Dons enter the contest looking to improve on its 6-7 overall record. A year ago, San Francisco opened the conference season with a perfect 7-0 record, propelling the team to its second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
