Doron, Mandala To Be Featured On WCC Live

Oct. 6, 2009

(San Bruno, Calif.) - WCC Live will be back on the air on Wednesday Oct. 7th between 8 and 9pm to preview conference play as volleyball and men's soccer have gotten underway, with women's soccer entering conference play this weekend. Sticking with the usual format, this episode will feature players and coaches from around the league, with the opportunity for fans to call in or email questions. Representing the University of San Francisco will be volleyball head coach Gilad Doron and junior stand-out Sarah Mandala.

Lining up for the next show will be cross country Head Coach Tom Service and Stephanie Wilson from Santa Clara, Doron and Mandala from San Francisco, volleyball Head Coach Jon Wallace and Dan Knudsen from Santa Clara, women's soccer Head Coach Amy Edwards from Gonzaga and men's Head Coach Bill Irwin and Austin Guerrero from Portland.

Coach Service has already seen a record year from his top runners as men's runner Robbie Reid and women's runner Stephanie Wilson both broke school records in the 8K (24:30) and 6K (20:57) respectively en route to earning WCC September Player of the Month honors.

Coach Doron currently has the Dons tied for second place in the conference standings after defeating Santa Clara last week in their sole match. Mandala is putting together quite a season as she currently ranks third in the country in kills per set and recently became the fastest Don in school history to achieve 1,000 kills. She was named a Co-Player of the Month for September.

Coach Wallace recently took part in the first match of the WCC's Dig Pink campaign as his Broncos took on the Dons last week. His program has raised the most money in the conference for the campaign with over 13,000 dollars raised over the last two seasons. Knudsen is off to a fantastic start to her freshman season, as she has already earned a Player of the Week award and was twice named to an All-Tournament team.

Coach Edwards is in her first year at the helm for the Zags and has led the team to an even 6-6-0 record, just one win away from last year's season ending total of seven wins.

Coach Irwin is currently riding an eight game unbeaten streak, including three wins over teams that have been ranked nationally and has the Pilots ranked as high as No. 16. Guerrero recently won the WCC Player of the Week award for his play in goal at the Husky Fever Classic, where he made 10 saves and allowed just one goal in two wins over Cal Poly and No. 17 Creighton.
