Volleyball Falls At LMU 3-1

(Los Angeles) - Sarah Mandala recorded 21 kills Saturday as the USF volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-12, 25-23) decision to Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. Mandala's efforts marked the seventh time this season the junior has posted 20 or more kills.
With the loss the Dons drop to .500 on the season with a 10-10 overall record, 4-3 in league play. The victory for LMU marked the first conference victory of the season for the Lions, who improved to 10-11, 1-6 in league action.
Mandala fel l just short of her fourth consecutive double-double, adding nine digs to her 21 kills. The San Dimas native also added two blocks for 22.5 total points.
Erin Kilroy recorded nine kills to help bolster the offense, while Erin Bragg added seven and Alycia Cox and Hadley Simmons recorded five each. Alaina Sully and Leanna Ludes ran the offense, with 22 and 23 assists, respectively.
Haley Carroll paced the defense with 18 digs, bringing her career total to 1,945. The senior needs 55 more digs, in her final seven career matches, to become the 45th player in NCAA Division I history to each the 2,000 mark.
The two teams played tight in the first set with neither team have more than a two point lead until the Lions rattled off the final three points to earn the 25-21 victory.
San Francisco controlled the second set, after going up 14-12 midway through. USF earned the victory, hitting at a .294 clip compared to LMU's .434 average in the set.
The Lions overwhelming handled the Dons in the third set. After going up 5-3, LMU posted an 8-0 run to put USF away early.
Loyola Marymount secured the victory with a win in the fourth set. The score was knotted 10 times, with the lead changing hands three times. Two set was decided late, with two of the ties coming at 22 and 23 before the Lions earned the final two points to earn the win.
The Dons will return to action Friday as they start the second half of West Coast Conference play at Santa Clara. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
