Mandala, Carroll Earn All-WCC First Team Honors

(San Bruno) - Sarah Mandala and Haley Carroll of the USF Volleyball team were named First Team All-West Coast Conference Tuesday, as announced by the Conference office. The honors mark the second consecutive season that the Dons have landed two or more on the All-WCC First Team.

Carroll, a libero, earned all-league honors for the fourth time in her career. She was named to the All-WCC Freshman team in 2006 before being named the 2007 WCC Defender of the Year, as well as earning First Team accolades. Last season, the native of Gilroy was awarded Honorable Mention accolades and was named to the Preseason All-Conference team prior to this season. As a senior, Carroll led the USF defense with 287 digs in WCC play, averaging 5.04 digs per set. The member of the USA A2 National Team also added 14 service aces. For the season, Carroll earned 527 digs, good enough for second on the all-time single season ranks.

Mandala earned First Team honors for the second consecutive season, while garnering her third All-WCC accolade. As a freshman, the native of San Dimas was awarded Honorable Mention honors. Prior to the 2009 season, the outside hitter was named to the West Coast Conference Preseason Team. During conference play, Mandala paced San Francisco with 271 kills, averaging 4.75 per set, including a career-high 34 against Pepperdine in the season finale. The junior added 98 digs and 23 blocks. For the season, Mandala recorded 508 kills, 4.84 per set, with 206 digs and 49 total blocks. Her 508 kills marks the most by a junior in USF history and the third highest total in a single season for any Don.
