(San Francisco) - USF played their most consistent match of the season in the finale of the 2004 USF/Coca-Cola Classic, Presented By Asics with a 30-19, 30-17, 32-30 sweep of Hofstra Saturday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (3-1) got a match-high 20 kills from senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers and sophomore outside hitter Theresa Hart added 18 against the Pride (2-2).
San Francisco dominated Hofstra in the first two games, cruising to easy victories. Game three was another matter as USF fought back from a 28-25 deficit to secure the sweep.
USF got strong offensive showings from Voelckers, who hit .316 and Hart who hit a .343 clip. As a team, the Dons hit at a .275 clip, while Hofstra hit .193 for the contest. Sophomore setter Jamie Kartchner dished out 48 assists and added 10 assists, while freshman libero Brynn Maurer recorded a match-high 20 digs for the Dons. Senior middle blocker Ashley Bello added nine kills on .368 hitting.
San Francisco returns to action when they travel north to take on the Hornets of Sacramento State in non-conference action Tuesday in the State Capital. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Hornet Gym.
USF def. Central Connecticut State 3-0: In USF's first match of the day, the Dons swept past Central Connecticut State 30-28, 30-23, 30-22, led by 13 kills and 11 digs from senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers, while freshman outside hitter Kristin Hasselberg added nine on .462 hitting. San Francisco hit at a .213 clip for the contest, while CCSU managed a .104 pace.
