Final Stats

(San Francisco) - USF volleyball opened up a 5-1 lead against Miami in game five of the Asics/Coca-Cola Invitational Championship match, but let off on the gas and fell 11-25, 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 10-15 Saturday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (6-3) drop their first home match of the season, while the Hurricanes (10-0) continue their impressive start.

Sophomore opposite hitter Sarah Mandala earned all-tournament honors after matching her career-high with 21 kills on .340 hitting with three blocks. Junior libero Haley Carroll joined her with a season-high 31 digs to go along with five aces in the title match.

Senior middle blocker Alix Gombos had nine kills for the Dons, while senior outside hitter Addie Webster, freshman middle blocker Erin Bragg and senior middle blocker Carly Babin added eight apiece. Freshman outside hitter Chelsey Lowe recorded 17 digs for USF.

Miami hit at a .235 clip for the match, while the Dons managed .211 attacking. Miami enjoyed an enormous 13.5-6.5 blocking advantage.

Lici McGee clubbed a team-high 14 kills on .522 hitting with six blocks, earning all-tournament honors. Tournament MVP Genny Mayhew tallied 13 kills with six digs and two blocks. Setter Katie Gallagher also made the squad with a match-high 45 assists, nine kills and seven digs in the finale.

USF returns to action when it competes in the Titan Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton beginning Friday, September 19. The Dons square off against the Titans in game one set for a 7:00 PM start at Titan Gym. No. 6 California and Central Connecticut State round out the tournament field.
