USF Volleyball Takes Down Central Connecticut State 3-1

(Fullerton, CA) - USF volleyball hit .306 and rolled past Central Connecticut State 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16) to close out play in the 2008 Cal State Fullerton Titan Classic Saturday afternoon in Titan Gym. The Dons (8-4) bounced back nicely against the Blue Devils (3-9) after dropping a hard-fought 3-0 decision against No. 9 California in the morning session.

Sophomore opposite hitter Sarah Mandala and senior setter Darcy Carroll captured all-tournament honors. It is the fourth consecutive all-tournament selection for Mandala, who averaged a team-high 4.55 kills on .344 attacking with 2.09 digs and 0.64 blocks per game. Carroll earns all-tournament selection for the second time in her career and averaged 10.55 assists and 1.91 digs per game as the Dons hit .281 in three matches.

Mandala continued to lift the Dons offensively, recording a match-high 17 kills on .412 hitting to go along with five digs, four blocks and a pair of service aces. Senior middle blocker Carly Babin added eight kills and three blocks (one solo), while senior outside hitter Addie Webster, freshman outside hitter Chelsey Lowe and freshman middle blocker Erin Bragg added seven kills each. Lowe and Bragg both hit .429 in the contest.

Junior libero Haley Carroll recorded 13 digs for the Dons, while senior setter Darcy Carroll added 29 assists, eight digs and two aces. Sophomore setter Alaina Sully chipped in 16 assists.

 

 

San Francisco welcomes Penn Friday, September 26 and Seattle University on Saturday in its final non-conference tune-ups before beginning West Coast Conference play. First serve against the Quakers is set for 7:00 PM at War Memorial Gym.
