(San Francisco) - Playing in its final non-conference tuneup before West Coast Conference play, USF stormed past Seattle 25-10, 25-17, 25-15 Saturday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (10-4) win their third straight match against the Redhawks (3-13) who earlier took a 3-2 win against Penn in a morning match at Saint Mary's. After a sluggish start last night against the Quakers, USF came out firing and led wire-to-wire in game one and hit a remarkable .480. The Dons cooled slightly, but ended up attacking at a .393 clip for the match with 45 kills and 10 errors on 89 attempts. Junior libero Haley Carroll enjoyed a big night for the Dons with a match-high 17 digs with a career-high six aces. Sophomore opposite Sarah Mandala led the way for the USF offense with nine kills on .583 hitting with four digs and a pair of blocks. Senior middle blocker Carly Babin added eight kills on .500 hitting. Senior setter Darcy Carroll dished out a match-high 24 assists with four kills and three digs, despite only playing two games. Senior middle blocker Alix Gombos added six kills on .857 hitting with a team-high three blocks. Cristin Richards and Kaytlyn Dill recorded nine kills apiece for the Redhawks, who hit .122 as a team for the contest. USF returns to action when it opens WCC play against Portland Thursday, October 2. First serve against the Pilots is set for 7:00 PM at War Memorial Gym.
