(San Francisco) - Senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers tallied a match-high 27 kills to lead USF volleyball to a 3-1 victory, 30-25, 30-19, 29-31, 30-13 against Gonzaga in West Coast Conference action Friday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (10-16, 3-7 WCC) win their fourth straight match against the Zags (4-20, 0-10 WCC). Voelckers tied her USF career-high in kills on .288 hitting to go along with 16 digs to complete her team-leading 14th double-double night of the year and also added four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Hart hammered 19 kills on .390 hitting to go along with 12 digs in her 11th double-double match of the season. Junior middle blocker KeLicia Shorts added 12 kills, a career-high 12 digs and added seven blocks (one solo). Sophomore setter Jamie Kartchner dished out 61 assists for the Dons, who hit at a .237 clip for the match, including a .325 clip in game two. Freshman libero Brynn Maurer notched a match-high 25 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Ally Henthorn added 10 for San Francisco. USF held a .237-.068 attack advantage and held a commanding 75-44 lead in kills. San Francisco and Gonzaga traded the lead in the early going, before the Dons began to pull away, riding eight kills and six digs from Voelckers to the win. USF led the second set from the opening serve and built a large lead and cruised to the 2-0 lead heading into the intermission. Game three was a different story as Gonzaga refused to go away, building a 15-7 lead in the early going. USF stormed back and tied the contest at 28-28. The Zags recovered and shut down the Dons comeback attempt. Game four was all USF as the Dons took advantage of 11 Gonzaga attack errors and hit at a .282 pace, compared to -.140 for the Zags.
USF returns to WCC action Saturday when they host Portland. First serve against the Pilots is scheduled for 7:00 PM at War Memorial Gym. |
