(Santa Clara) - USF extended No. 12 Santa Clara to four games, but ran out of magic in the final frame falling 30-21, 30-26, 28-30, 30-18 to the 2005 West Coast Conference Champions Saturday night at the Leavey Center. The Dons (17-13, 4-10 WCC) conclude the regular season Tuesday night at UC Davis, while the Broncos (23-4, 12-2 WCC) capture their first league title since 2000, while snapping a three-match losing streak. Junior outside hitter Theresa Hart enjoyed a big night for the Dons, recording a team-high 18 kills to go along with seven digs and a pair of aces. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Hasselberg added 14 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks, while junior setter Jamie Kartchner dished out 45 assists and added five digs, three blocks and two aces. Sophomore libero Brynn Maurer tallied a match-high 20 digs for USF. Senior middle blocker KeLicia Shorts tallied five kills and six blocks (one solo) in her final WCC match, while fellow senior opposite Jencie Lejeune added eight kills and three digs. USF struggled to slow down one of the top 10 offenses in the country and held the Broncos to a .108 attack percentage in game three, but playing in front of a big crowd on senior night, Santa Clara roared back hitting .412 in game four. The Broncos hit .270 for the match and limited the Dons to a .101 pace. Junior Kim McGiven led three Bronco hitters with a match-high 22 kills on .354 hitting. San Francisco travels to Davis Tuesday to wrap up the 2005 regular season. First serve against the Aggies is set for 7:00 PM at the Event Center.
