No. 25 Volleyball Drops Key 3-0 Decision To No. 24 Waves

Nov. 20, 2008

Box Score

(Malibu, Calif.) - Despite a 14 kill performance by senior middle blocker Carly Babin, the No. 25 USF Volleyball team dropped a 25-19, 25-10, 25-17 decision to No. 24 Pepperdine Friday in Malibu. The loss to the Waves (20-5 overall, 8-5 WCC), coupled with a victory by No. 17 San Diego, drops the Dons (20-7, 10-3 overall) into second place in the West Coast Conference standings.

Despite falling into second place, the Dons can still be named West Coast Conference Co-Champions with a victory at Loyola Marymount and a San Diego loss at Pepperdine Saturday.

Babin led the Dons on the evening with 14 kills, two digs and a block. Babin was the lone USF player to record double-digit kills in the contest. The Waves held reigning WCC Player of the Week Sarah Mandala to five kills on the contest, while Alix Gombos, who ranks in the top-5 in the nationally in hitting, recorded just a pair of kills.

Senior setter Darcy Carroll dished out a team-high dozen assists, while sophomore setter Alaina Sully recorded eight assists with five digs.

San Fransico's junior libero Haley Carroll posted ten digs, while senior outside hitter Addie Webster provided the Dons with seven.

USF will wrap up West Coast Conference play Saturday with a tilt at Loyola Marymount. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m at Gersten Pavilion.
