USF Volleyball Promotes Dan Fisher to Associate Head Coach

(San Francisco) - Dan Fisher has been elevated to Associate Head Coach of the women's volleyball program at the University of San Francisco, as announced today by head coach Gilad Doron. A former U.S. National Team setter and men's and women's volleyball assistant coach at Pacific, Fisher completed his first season on the Hilltop in 2007. "I am happy and excited to promote Dan to an expanded role on the coaching staff," Doron said. "Dan brings outstanding knowledge and experience. Dan is more than ready and capable of taking additional responsibilities in building the University of San Francisco into a top tier program." "I am grateful to Gilad for the opportunity to take on more responsibilities with USF Volleyball," Fisher said. "I look forward to the challenges ahead as we continue to build this program with Coach Doron. I am confident USF is poised for a breakthrough season." In addition to his duties with Dons Volleyball, Fisher also coached in the club circuit, guiding the San Francisco Juniors U-17 squad last season. A standout player and team captain for Pacific, Fisher spent three years on the US National Team, beginning in 1999. Fisher began his coaching career overseas, coaching Club Volleyball Menen for the 1999-00 season and later spent the 2003-04 season coaching the Volleyball Club Appenzell Gotten Girl's Youth in Switzerland. Fisher also coached the Club Santa Barbara 16's in 2002. After a successful playing career in Europe, Fisher remains active on the AVP Tour. Fisher spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Pacific men's team and also spent two years as an assistant with the women's program. While serving on the staff of the ead coach Joe Wortmann, the Pacific men's team achieved a No. 14 national ranking and rose as high as No. 8 during the 2007 season. In three seasons at his alma mater, Fisher worked with junior outside hitter Pekka Seppanen, who was named a second team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In addition, Fisher worked with one US National Team performer and four players earning All-MPSF honors.
An accomplished coach with international experience, Fisher was named to the USA Volleyball staff for the 2007 World University Games, August 8-18 in Bangkok, Thailand. Fisher worked with some of the nation's top men's collegiate volleyball players for the duration of the summer. |
