Carly Babin Named WCC Volleyball Player of the Week
Oct. 13, 2008
(San Francisco) - Senior opposite middle blocker Carly Babin continues to post a stellar season and has earned one more accolade to add to her list of accomplishments, as she was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. The native of Las Vegas, Nev. led the Dons to a 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-18 victory over No. 15 San Diego last week, as USF remained perfect in West Coast Conference play. Babin continued her stellar senior season, leading the Dons with a .826 hitting percentage. Her average marked the third best in USF single-match history, and the best average for a Don in four games. Against the Toreros, Babin recorded 19 kills, a career-high seven digs and a match-high seven blocks. Babin's selection marks the first Player of the Week honor for USF this season. Last year, San Francisco earned the accolade once as Sarah Mandala was awarded the honor on October 29. The Dons return to action this weekend as they continue WCC play at Saint Mary's and nationally ranked Santa Clara. USF will travel to Moraga Thursday at 7 p.m. before facing the No. 20 Broncos Saturday in Santa Clara at 1 p.m.
