(San Francisco, CA) - Sacramento State swept the team titles at the 2000 USF Cross Country Invitational held at Golden Gate Park on September 9. Both the men's and the women's teams raced on a four-mile course at scenic Lindley Meadows.

Cheryl Smith (Univ. Hawai'i) won the individual championship with a time of 23:32, while Erik Mencanini (Sacramento State) beat the field with a 20:59.

Sacramento State led the women's field with a score of 35, edging San Jose State (37). Hawai'i (51), placed third, while West Coast Conference rivals Saint Mary's College and USF finished tied for fourth (143).

The Hornets paced the men's side as well with 26 points, while the Spartans (37) and Saint Mary's College rounded out the top three teams. Host San Francisco (134) finished fourth followed by Cal State Hayward (215).

For USF, Chrysta Heavens placed 14th at 26:17 for the women, while Rudy Castanon turned in a 22:33, good for 13th place on the men's side.
