USF Places Seventh in Hawai'i Invitational
Jahani Top Lady Don Finisher in 21st
HONOLULU - San Diego State University women's cross country team captured first place in the University of Hawai'i Invitational while Long Beach State University men's team took home the team title. The 5K race was held in warm, muggy conditions at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on the U.S. Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe, Oahu. SDSU placed three runners - Kylie Edwards (18:20), Sophia Hawker (18:23), and Alicia Stewart (18:50) - in the Top 10 finishing third, fourth, and ninth, respectively. Capturing overall individual honors was Hawai'i's Cheryl Smith, who clipped nine seconds off her UH Invitational record-setting time from a year ago when she competed as a member of the SUNY-Cortland women's cross country program. She finished with a time of 17:52 some 21 seconds ahead of Hawai'i Pacific's Lisa Blomme. Smith transferred to UH this season and has already won both races that UH has participated - the San Francisco and Hawai'i invitationals. USF placed finished in seventh place behind West Coast Conference rival San Diego. Top finishers for the Lady Dons were Roxana Jahani (21, 19:41) and Crysta Heavens (36, 20:14).
