Jose Madera reflects on his long career as a Don, in this vignette of the final episode of the season of "Behind the Mask."
His five-year career running at San Francisco culminated in his third bid to the NCAA West Preliminary Championships on the track, where he competed in the semifinals of the 10,000 meters.
"It's always great to win," reflected Madera after failing to advance to the finals. "But it's not all about winning, it's about being the best you can be. Every race, every loss, is a learning opportunity and if you understand that you're going to always be a winner."
The native of Anaheim, Calif., leaves the USF program as a three-time NCAA 10k semifinalist, an NCAA cross country individual qualifier, a two-time USTFCCCA All-Region performer (XC), and the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year (XC) in 2010. Madera also holds the school record at the 3,000 and in his specialty distance, the 10,000, on the track.
This segment of "Behind the Mask," will debut on Comcast SportsNet California next Wednesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. The show takes fans beyond the game to showcase the teams and student-athletes of all 15 varsity sports programs.
In the San Francisco By Area, CSN California can typically be found on channel 698 for DirecTV customers, 438 on Dish Network, 412-01 on Dish Hopper packages, 767 on U-Verse, and 41 on most Comcast packages. Check local listings for your cable provider's station guide.
