Final Round Team and Individual Results

PROVO, Utah – Behind a record-setting round by freshman Tim Widing, USF turned in a 5-under final round 283 to finish sixth at the Ping Cougar Classic in Provo.

USF's 54-hole team score of 3-under 861 left the Dons in sixth place overall, 19 strokes behind host BYU, which won the tournament with a 22-under score of 842. Loyola Marymount was second at 850, followed by Utah (852), Santa Clara (855) and Saint Mary's (855).

Pavan Sagoo of Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount's Blake Meek tied for medalist honors at 7-under 209. Six golfers, including Widing, tied for third at 6-under 210.

Widing, who was 3-over par for the tournament heading into today's final round after posting rounds of 72 and 75 on Monday, shot 28 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for third place after blistering the Riverside Country Club Course with a 9-under 63 on Tuesday. The 63 is believed to be the lowest round to par in school history and is the lowest round turned in by a Don since Sebastian Crookall-Nixon carded a 7-under 63 on the par-70 Meadow Club during the 2012 Alister Mackenzie Invitational.

Widing eagled the 551-yard, par-5 fifth hole and made the turn at 3-under par. He then birdied five of his first six holes on the backside, including four straight on holes 12-15 to move to 9-under on the day. Pars on the last three holes left him with a 63.

"Tim showed his teammates and the conference the type of play we still have in our bag," said USF head coach Jack Kennedy. "Today was an incredible round that will be remembered in the history books.

"We had some great play from different guys all week and it will be just a matter of time before we get everyone going on the same day for us to bring home a conference championship."

Henry Chung moved into a tie for 15th place after carding a final round 71, leaving him at 2-under 214 for the tournament. After opening with a bogey, the junior made birdies on the fifth and seventh holes to move to 1-under par and then preceded to play the back nine even for his 71.

Max Alcorn tied for 17th place at 1-under 215 on rounds of 68, 72 and 75. Alcorn had three bogeys and 15 pars on his Tuesday card.

Jalen Griffin and Michael D'Angelo were part of a large pack tied for 50th place at 9-over 225. Griffin carded a final round 74 while D'Angelo posted his third straight 75.

Mathias Wentjarvi, playing as an individual, matched his career-low round as a collegian with a 73 and finished tied for 56th at 11-over 227.

The Dons will return to Riverside Country Club next week for the WCC Championships, which get underway on Thursday, April 20.
